One hundred seventy years ago, the first fixed rope route in the Alps was created on the Dachstein. Today, Ramsau am Dachstein is Austria’s no. 1 via ferrata area. A total of 19 fixed rope routes are located on the southern side of Styria’s highest mountain and can be tackled from Ramsau.
Via ferrata mountaineering is the secured variant of climbing. The route through the wall is secured with fixed ropes and iron pins, so even less experienced climbers can enjoy the fascination of mountain sports amid steep walls. As a bonus, the climbers can look forward to stunning views of the Dachstein: In the north to the Czech Republic and the south to the Slovenian Triglav Mountains
